Love, music, and BBQ born in La Habra
Ruby Red's BBQ is founder Steve Williamson's love letter to his wife Tammy and to great barbecue — two things that shaped everything here.
A love story since 1983
Steve was 18 and Tammy was 15 when they met — their first kiss happened waiting for the Storybook Land Canal Boats at Disneyland. That fairy tale set the tone for everything that followed.
How Tammy became Ruby Red
A pre-wedding hair mishap ended with Steve's mother turning Tammy's hair a beautiful ruby red — the color suited her perfectly, the nickname stuck, and it's been Steve's name for her ever since.
Music in the background
Steve grew up on Tom Jones, Elvis, and Helen Reddy — memorizing "Ruby Red Dress" until the words were part of him. That same warmth still fills the room; catch him whistling or singing on stage.
Sharing the barbecue
When Steve decided it was time to share his love for BBQ with La Habra, only one name ever came to mind. Every plate that leaves this kitchen is, in its own way, a love letter.
